A few firsts for the baby book...

This weekend brought a couple of firsts. The first "first" was that Miss Anna had a trip to the emergency room. After waking up on Saturday morning with what appeared to be congestion in her sinuses, Anna's breathing became quite labored and very loud. Being the panicky, first-time parents that we are, we called our pediatrician's office for advice. The nurse listened to her breathing over the phone and told us to take her to ER because her breathing sounded too "tight." Yikes. So we grabbed Anna and put her in the car seat and took her to Children's Memorial Hospital. To give you an idea of how panicked her mother was, we forgot the pacifier and a blanket. Good thing Anna had on clothes before we got the direction to take her to the hospital or we might have forgotten those also.

On the way, Anna let out 5 sneezes in a row (our baby could win any sneezing competition, including giving her mother a run for her money) and out flew some gunk from her nose. Her breathing immediately became freer and easier. We continued on to the emergency room where Anna was seen and given a clean bill of health. Thankfully, the sneezing seemed to do the trick. The pediatricians probably thought we were crazy for bringing in our baby with a severe case of boogers, but, hey, better safe than sorry, right?

Anna's second "first" also took place on Saturday. After a few minutes of crying and fussiness this afternoon, we decided to try to give her a few minutes of tummy time, which essentially means we lay her on her tummy and see if she can lift up her head and put it down on both sides of her body. These exercises are designed to strengthen her neck muscles. Anna has a pretty strong neck, but doesn't always like tummy time because it's frustrating for a baby to lift up her head and respond to her parents' voices, etc. Frequently, we'll put her down only to see her immediately curl up into a ball and fall asleep. She's not the most ambitious of babies. But, today, she surprised us by grunting and lifting her head and then in a flash - she FLIPPED herself over on to her back. Cat like reflexes? A gymnast in the making? Only time will tell. One thing is for sure, this kid has moves!

She has gotten so much bigger from the last time I saw her. I need to get up there before she grows up too much! I miss her so much. Hang in there guys and just know that someday she will sleep peacefully all night!
