Shortest Distance Between Two Points
Tonight we went to a neighborhood restaurant called Caliente. It’s a great little Mexican place (bet you didn’t guess from the name) and the owners are super sweet. They brought over a small bowl of rice for Anna right after we walked in the door and doted on her throughout the meal. They’re expecting their own little girl in six weeks and I think Anna was just what they needed to get them through the last stretch of the pregnancy.
This rice was delicioso – soft yellow rice that tasted like chicken and vegetables because it’s cooked in broth. Anna was in LOVE with it and pretty much stuffed herself silly. We were excited that Anna was eating so much because lately she gets really upset if she can’t eat exactly what we’re eating. She points and does the baby sign for more and makes it quite clear that she has no interest in her current food and ONLY wants to eat whatever is in mama or dada’s hands. At a spicy restaurant like Caliente, it’s difficult to accommodate such requests. Anyway, I kept putting more rice in front of her and she kept eating it and Mike and I were actually enjoying a nice conversation when we look over and see Anna earnestly trying to eat the rice directly off the table, head down and mouth on table. I guess sometimes you just gotta skip the hand middle man.
As if that wasn’t hilarious enough, the rice eventually bested young Anna and she laid her head down on it a few minutes later.
Despite having to swab her down with wipes before we loaded her into the car, it’s moments like that that make you laugh out loud the rest of the night.
