Enjoying the Sunshine while it Lasts...

We're still working on our letters around here. I'd say Anna knows about a third of the alphabet by now, but between the new baby and the new house, I haven't been practicing them much. In fact, I can't even bring myself to read those long ABC books to her anymore. It seems like I can barely make it through a short book without Abe getting upset and the thought of having to make it through the entire alphabet, while asking her "what's this letter?"

Um... let's just say this house is no Reading Rainbow.

But. BUT. I did have a small stroke of genius yesterday and created a Letter Hunt in the backyard. First, large and small letters (T, K, L, X) were taped up around the backyard. Next, I told Anna we were on a hunt for them. I'd ask her where the K is and then she'd have to go hunt for it. Then I'd try to think of words that letter begins with. The idea was that I'd combine some alphabet exercises with running around outside, which she hardly gets to do outside of weekends.

I knew I had about a 20 minute window while Abe was asleep. The guy is not napping at all these days and it's really driving me mad. So I scrambled to get the letters created and ran around quickly to tape them up. It only took a few minutes. Then, as I heard Abe starting to stir, I started the game. She actually got very intrigued by the idea of hunting for something. Unfortunately, we had to break a few minutes into it to come inside and get Abe. That kinda broke her concentration. When we returned to the game it was a mixture of letter hunt/look-mama-it's-lunch-that-I-made-from-a-frisbee-and-some-gross-leaves.

However, last night at dinner she did tell Mike that she went on a letter hunt and found K and T.
I'll take it.

You are so creative - just like your mom! I think Anna is doing GREAT with her letters for only being 2-years-old. Actually, I looked at some letter cards with her when I was there and was impressed then. You're doing fine!!!
