Ten

Anna's antics are at an all time high. Hilarious one minute, infuriating the next. I don't know whether to kiss her or throw my hands up in defeat from one minute to the next. But I've decided to try to record ten things she's doing every month (it's in writing so I have to do it now) and I'll do the same for Abe (though it may be top five :-) until he's a bit older).

  1. Wash it down. Since having learned the phrase from Mike, Anna insists on "washing down" all her food with a drink. She will take a bite of crackers and insist that she needs milk to wash it down. Dinner, snacks, everything gets washed down around here
  2. Mama, make me breakfast. She's still waking up at 5:30 every morning. Still sitting on her little stool (see below) at the bottom of the steps to our bedroom and still yelling up to me to come down and fix her breakfast. I'm still exhausted.
  3. Bed time for all. Anna loves to put all her dolls to bed. This is not new, but it's reached epic proportions. The other day I found all her dolls pulled out of their basket and placed around her room with burp cloths placed over them. When she ran out of burp cloths, she tucked them under her rug.
  4. Richard Scarry. A christmas gift that keeps on giving. Anna carried her Richard Scarry big book of stories to church this morning, insisted on reading it during the drive, and even showed our pastor.Bold
  5. Bolisasolli grapes. No idea what this means, but she will not say the word grapes. She insists on having "bolisasolli" grapes. We've searched our brains over and over, trying to figure out what this means. It's not a "bowl of grapes," it's not broken grapes, we cannot figure what bolisasolli means.
  6. Picky eater. In order to avoid eating her meals, Anna has started insisting that food is a) too cold, b) too hot or c) hurts her tongue. The last one is my personal favorite.
  7. Reading to herself. Finally, she has started to read to herself. Having never been able to get her to spend much time alone - period, I'm very glad to find her sometimes sitting on her bed, reading a book.
  8. A girl and her stool. Anna's little wooden stool goes EVERYWHERE with her. She carries it around so she can see up onto the counter, climb into her chair, whatever. The other night she thought she left it in Abe's room after I'd put him down to sleep and moped around, completely forlorn. Then she discovered she'd left the stool in the bathroom. Mike heard her exclaim, "MY STOOL. I FOUND IT." and ran into the bathroom to pick it up and bring it into the dining room.
  9. Binoculars. We're not sure where she picked this up, but she's obsessed with binoculars. Anna says they're a scientific tool (thank you, sid the science kid) and she wants a pair of her own binoculars. Hmm... wonder what she's getting for her birthday.
  10. "Sharing." Um, yeah. So Anna's version of sharing is that she refuses to share ANYTHING, but she'll walk right up to you while you're eating something and say that she wants to share with you... i.e., gimme some of that. Preschool directors, be afraid.

Love it. While this age is totally exhausting, isn't it just fascinating?
