Weekend Project

After exploring the Made By Joel blog last week, I got excited about sewing the little toddler skirts that he made for his daughter. I wasn't sure I could pull it off (t's been a really long time since I've sewn anything) or that my sewing machine even worked anymore (it's been making a weird, grinding noise).

But I made a trek to Jo-Ann's fabric store and found some super cute fabric and completed my (whoops, I mean Anna's) first skirt.

Who can resist this fabric? You'd have to have a heart of stone not to love this...

I made some mistakes and the next time I sew a skirt, it will be better. For instance, the hem is a little weird. I used bias tape and then wasn't sure how to attach it so I just did a really wide zig zag stitch. It's not terribly professional looking, but it doesn't stand out unless you really look at it closely. If anyone tries to look at Anna's skirt, she's been instructed to run around fast.

The pattern was really easy to follow and now I'm sort of hoping I'll stumble across a few more simple patterns like this because I think I could handle it. I'll definitely make a few more of these skirts for the summer time. She can wear them with leggings and it will be really cute. Tim Gunn may not approve of leggings, but I do.

I am so impressed and I think that fabric is darling. Bobby gave me a sewing machine for Christmas and I am so afraid of it. Looking to sign up for a sewing class in the next month or so. I'll have to ask you for sewing advice!

alright, that's it -- you have definitely just eliminated yourself from "I'm not crafty" status. A SKIRT?!

Really cute picture of Anna, btw.

Super cute, Mags. Like Jessica, I too received a sewing machine for Christmas. Super excited about it. I might need some pointers from you!
