Crazy Crawler

Abe is burning up the rugs around here. Yes, I am quite pleased to report that he is a full on crawler. In my last post I think I mentioned that he was still having trouble sitting up, but in the last few weeks he's become a very steady sitter, a perfect pivot-er, and a crazy crawler. How's that for alliteration?

The kid is EVERYWHERE! We find him sitting up in his crib every morning, shouting for us to come down and get him. DADADADADA!!! or ANAAANAANAA!!! or MAAMAMMAA!!! or whatever other strange combination of vowels and consonants he's selected. Abe doesn't even lay still long enough to get his diaper changed. I'm now changing him on the floor because it's too dangerous to keep him on the changing table. He flips over -- during the actual changing-- and then pulls himself to the edge to peer over onto the floor. Fear is a 9 month old baby laughing as he looks over the edge of his changing table.

From the moment he gets up, all he wants to do is move. Sitting is for suckers. He darts across the room, grabs a toy, then back to the other side for another toy. Then into the kitchen - he heard something in there! But - wait- where's Anna? Now it's into Anna's room to see what she's doing and maybe pull the toys out of her cube and get into her dolls. Then it's back into the living room because he hasn't been there in 5 whole minutes!
I had it so easy. I used to set him down and walk into the other room and when I came back he'd be right there. Now I leave to grab my drink and he's ten feet away - or right behind me. All I do is run around trying to make sure he doesn't stick something dangerous in his mouth or grab something and pull it down on his head. Oy. It's definitely changed my day.

And now he's starting to pull up, which is even more frightening because Abe's at that unsteady, teetering stage so he'll pull up on the couch cushion or bottom step and I'll race to get over to him before he topples back onto the hardwood floor. All I can think is DANGER, DANGER, DANGER.

The physical therapist loves this, of course. She wants us to really encourage the crawling -- the crazy crawling -- and has us utilizing the couch pillows on the floor. Our living room looks like an obstacle course.

Up the pillows and then down the other side, then over and back. I'm supposed to exhaust him, I think. He loves it. Abe's so happy now that he's moving around. It's an entirely new level of worry for me, but he's so much fun to watch.

My little crawler. I can't believe walking will be around the corner!

Wow! Great news that he is blowing by all those gross motor milestones. That must give your worrying head a rest, even if it is giving you other things (falls, spills, outlets) to worry about.

As it was with Anna/Georgia, I now read all of the Abe posts thinking, wow, I can't believe June might be doing all that in the not too distant future. It's amazing.
