When we returned from a few days of vacation in Michigan we got a wonderful surprise. Not only did we have a great trip, but our tomatoes decided to welcome us home.
This morning we picked 24 tomatoes from the garden. That's right, 24!!
I had so many of them lined up that Anna started playing with them, pretending they were tigers. We now have so many tomatoes that they've become toys.
There are already three small bags of tomatoes in our deep freeze and I'll stick a few more in there for soups and stews this winter, but we will have to distribute the rest of them. We've eaten more tomatoes than I care to count, but this type of bulk would be impossible to consume. The food pantry where I volunteer is always in need of fresh vegetables so I'll take a bunch of them there.
Mike's got an interest in canning things, but I'm not so sure we'll be able to pull it off. We'll see though. It would be cool to add canning to the list of homestead activities we've adopted.
Or maybe just open up a road side stand? Care to stop by and check out our produce, anyone??

fantastic! what a wonderful bounty.
hope your trip was fun, too.
We've had great luck with our tomatoes this year too. I love it - really, there's nothing like the taste of a home grown tomato. Yum.
Also, on the topic of roadside stands... great idea, what with all of your previous experience (lemonade stands). You'll make millions. Just make sure to have a decent exit strategy planned out should robbers appear to abscond with all of your profit :)
Ha! You're right, Kelly. But what do I do if I don't have a heavily wooded area to run into? That's kinda what the plan revolves around...
I'll have to send you our gazpacho and salmorejo recipes--both cold soups with fresh tomatoes. If you need them ASAP, google that and see what comes up. Deliciosa!!
