To the Pumpin Patch!

This weekend we headed out to Channahon, IL, for a little pumpkin pickin'. We're having a freakish warm streak here and instead of the fall temperatures one might expect, it was sweltering in the upper 80's, maybe even higher. Note to self: do not wear jeans in October when it is 80 degrees -- even though it is October, 80 degrees is still feels shockingly like 80 degrees, even in October.

Look! We're almost there! Check out the changing colors. Illinois, you are giving Missouri a run for its money. Such a beautiful drive.

Dollinger Farms was our destination. It was a first time visit for us, but we'll definitely go back. Very manageable with kids -- nice big pumpkin fields and a couple of small shops. Nothing too crazy, which is perfect for toddlers. The farm had hayrides and a cute train ride, but we just couldn't handle the heat long enough to tackle those.

The farm had a number of these tiny little wooden houses for kids to run around and play in. There were probably four of them and then a little chapel set off from the others. Anna had a blast, although she commented to Mike, I don't think I could sleep in here.
Zonks. Well, there goes our plan to start up Roth City, USA.

Again, I'm going to have to bag a little bit on the heat here. Abe is one of those kids who desperately needs to be wearing a cap at all times and yet constantly whips it off and throws it aside. Same routine at the pumpkin farm. He was bright red, despite all the sunscreen, and yanking at his hat the entire time. I had a hard time catching a good photo, but you can see here, he's just running as fast as he can to get away from the hat putter-onner (mom) and catch up with Anna.

Then suddenly a scarecrow appeared!!

But we handled it gracefully and headed off to the pumpkin field. Crisis averted!

Now we shall hoist the bounty into our wagon. What gorgeous items shall we select to grace our front porch and "background" (i.e. backyard)?

This one! No, this one! This one!

Found a couple of turkeys in the pumpkin pile. Guess we'll keep em'
The trip wasn't long, we only stayed probably an hour and half, but that's just fine by us. As the kids get older and the climate reverts to traditional October temperatures (or has global warming changed that forever?), we'll stay longer. Until then, we are happy to say that our Halloween preparations are underway.
Big pumpkins, little pumpkins, mini pumpkins and gourds. Autumn has arrived!

Okay, what's the deal with the two of us purchasing the exact same clothing items lately? E has the same Halloween shirt that Abe is wearing here, and she also wore it to the pumpkin patch here a couple of weekends ago. Great minds think alike, I guess :)

Cute pics! Looks like you guys had a great time!

I'm just catching up here. Love the pics! And especially that Abe is all sweaty in the last one and Anna is having a blast. Glad you got to enjoy the pumpkin patch even if it was hot. By the earlier blog pics, I thought it was cold already!
