Fun with Scissors

Anna's obsession with cutting and scotch-taping things is proving to be one of the most interesting stages we've encountered. She will cut, tape, and "decorate" anything she can get her hands on.

A few recent examples:

Using some old plastic wrap that I discarded after I removed a loaf of bread from the freezer, Anna twisted and shaped and glued it together to make a dragon. Now I don't think she originally intended to create a dragon, but once the re-shaping was finished, it turned into one. Using some markers and glue, she colored in the dragon's fire and wings and feet and voila! One dragon at your service.

Then she decided that it had to be carrying a prince and princess (duh!). So I drew the outline of some people and then she colored the people and added hair and shoes and other various accessories. This was approximately one day before she started drawing people's faces, which is another post itself.

It's so hard to tell from the picture, but I swear it does kinda look like a dragon :-) and I don't think that's just my bias speaking.

Next project, a protective case for her beloved kid scissors. Again, something arrived in the mail with a clear plastic sleeve and when I let it drop to the floor, she grabbed on to it and started scheming.

Abe's always after her precious scissors so she took it upon herself to cut out part of the plastic, reshape it and scotch tape it shut so he couldn't get to the goods. Then, of course, she decorated it with markers. This one really made me laugh.

I can't imagine what dire warnings she will be writing on the outside of her diary one day.

Anna's preschool teacher told me I needed to work with her on cutting so we've been focusing on that skill recently. I have to say I think we're all set with this one. My kitchen floor is covered with scraps of paper that she has cut and cut again -- all waiting to be used in her next big "project."
I'm sure I'll featuring these projects on a regular basis, dear readers, they are responsible for a major proportion of my smiles these days.

nice work, anna! this post made me smile for sure.

oh, and maggie, have I mentioned to you yet that I now use your blog like my own personal Google Reader? Ever since you added the little blog links on the side w/the pictures, I just click on your blog to find out if anyone else has updated. Nice! So thanks for that. I also weirdly feel like it is a competition between all the blogs listed to jump back to the top of the list for having updated most recently, but it's probably a weak competition since no besides me knows that they are in this competition. I think I am still losing to Jessica, though.
