Apple Pickin'

We set out for our some apple picking yesterday at Kuiper's Farm in Maple Park. It was a beautiful day. Hands down the best weather we've ever had for apple picking. Sunny and cool. Just right for wearing a jacket, which is one of the perks of fall weather if you ask me. Those few days when you can get brisk clean air are something I look forward to each year. Fall doesn't last quite long enough.

Anna suffered the consequences of forgetting her jacket. This is one of those things I can't believe happens because we remind her approximately 35 times to grab it (despite the fact that she tells us -- I am NEVER cold except when there is snow!). However, it did happen. She was sans jacket, which I thought was going to be a MAJOR problem, but she didn't complain nearly as much as we expected.

The picking was great. Lots of apples still left on the trees and not too terribly crowded. I made a double batch of morning glory muffins yesterday and we're having baked apples tonight with our dinner. Picked up some raisin brain today for yet another type of muffin because I'm thinking freezing all these muffins will be a great warm breakfast surprise come winter time.

Abe got a real kick out of the tractor ride out to the tree groves. The apples were a secondary treat for him, though the apple donuts were quite delightful for everyone.

If you've got any yummy apple recipes you'd like to share, please do so. I've got about 30-40 apples that need eating!

Yay for cooler weather! Looks like a great time. I haven't been apple picking myself yet, but if I do go, I'll be making these: http://www.cookingwithmykid.com/recipes/baked-apple-donut/

Let me know if you try them first!

I'm interested to see what recipe suggestions you get here. We went apple picking a couple of weekends ago, and in typical Greg fashion, we got WAY too many apples (18 pounds, to be exact). So far we've made applesauce, caramel apple spice cake, and apple tarte tatin. Still have SO many more apples to use! :)

I got a recipe from the newspaper for apple dumplings. I was going to make it with the kids, along with grandma and papa when we come up for the weekend. Love ya and see ya soon!
