Grade 1

Today we learned who Anna's first grade teacher will be. The class assignments and student lists were posted at approximately 4:00 p.m.  I sat on the web site hitting refresh... refresh... refresh. And there it appeared -- the magical login and password link to my daughter's 2013-2014 school year.

Quite a few of the children in last year's class will also be in her class this year, including several very sweet girls. However, a few close friends were placed in the other first grade room. It's a bummer but she hasn't really been upset about it. Time will tell... Monday morning might feel different. I did remind her that everyone is together for recess.

The coming year will be a good opportunity for her to meet new kids and maybe expand her social circle a bit. I know she will gain new friendships and a few of the girls in her class seem like the kind of kids I'd like her to get to know better. Kids are very resilient. That is my mantra. But, of course, a mother's perspective is different than a child's. I'm so curious about how the transition will go. Anna's teacher has a great reputation and I think she will enjoy the academic part of school. It's still very uncomfortable to think about her being gone for so much of the day, but I know Abe needs more one-on-one time with me.

Oh well. Enough. 2013-2014 school year, here we come!
