When Mike was home from work last week, dealing with strep throat (oh yeah, did I follow up on that one? He had strep throat and we have no idea how he got it), he gathered up the kids and decorated our front yard for Halloween.
The kids were getting mighty anxious because several houses on our block had already put up lights and cobwebs. They can't comprehend that Halloween isn't TOMORROW, so they began begging us everyday to put up Boo. And thank goodness for their reminders. We totally forget Halloween every year. It's purely coincidence that we dress up and ask for candy on the same night as others.
You may be wondering who Boo is... well, Boo is our ghost. I bought him a couple of years back. He originally had a much taller post and some bells that clanged around his neck, but I broke the post or lost it or something and the bells disappeared so now he's all short and squatty. He is not exactly intimidating, but he's like a member of the family so we can never get rid of Boo. He has a name. Boo will have to be struck by lightening or stolen by renegade teenagers before we part with him.
Now Anna and Abe were much happier after the decorations were up, but it still felt as though something was missing.
They worked themselves up in a creative tizzy and proceeded to color notebook pages worth of Halloween pictures while I made dinner. Then they scotch taped them to the front and back doors. My personal favorite are the pages that Anna created which say,
"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK"
and
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
You're terrified. It's too much fright. I hear ya...
We're thinking about carving pumpkins this weekend, which I did myself last year. And the weather is finally cool so it's starting to feel like fall. Finally. I love this weather and I've been waiting for a month or so. The leaves are starting to turn golden and red and these beautiful trees never stay this way for long. Autumn is too short.
Enjoy the fall colors wherever you are this week...
