Mike and I started feeding Anna solids (rice cereal) two weeks ago. Why two weeks ago? Well, the books say you can start anywhere between four-six months and Anna was turning five months so we thought... why not? Our pediatrician told Mike during the last visit that we would "just know" when the time was right. Uh huh. Well, we didn't know, so we picked a date.
It was adorable to watch. We got out the video camera, put Anna in her pajamas and tied a bib around her neck. Anna looked at the spoon, looked at us, started to smile... it was as if we were going to play a great game with a little stick and she was up for it. And, that's kinda how the first few feedings went. We'd wave this little stick around her face, she'd smile, and then we'd somehow stick it in her in mouth and she'd smile again, and then it would all roll out the sides of her mouth. Repeat five-10 times or until she starts twisting and grunting.
A few days ago we realized that Anna was having some digestive issues (and I think you know what I mean). Turns out rice cereal is very "binding" and our pediatrician recommended we switch to oatmeal cereal instead. Anna is hooked! She loves it. I put the spoon in her mouth and she swallows and leans forward ready for the next bite. The girl finished the entire bowl tonight (which is very small but considering I was just getting a few spoonfuls of the rice down her, that's a bit deal). Anna is in L-O-V-E with oatmeal.
Good thing something is making her smile because I also discovered something else today. Ready??? Anna has a tooth!! She was gnawing on my knuckles (a favorite activity) and I felt something sharp. After wrestling her mouth open, I saw there's a little tooth breaking through the surface. It's a lower one. I don't know how long it will take to actually become a real tooth - days, weeks? - but it's coming. Anyone who's been through teething, feel free to pass on the advice.

What a fun week! Ryder always made the funniest faces when they started the whole cereal thing - it took him a while to get used to it. And a tooth - what a milestone!
If she likes oatmeal, just wait until she gets to eat something yummy!
Lila's bottom teeth have been coming up for more than six weeks now. They are almost all the way in I think but seem like they could stand to be taller.
Congrats to Anna on her first tooth!!
