Let the Pain Begin
Starting Monday we will officially begin potty training. I've been postponing this for a long long time. Like months. With the arrival of the baby and the move, it just didn't make sense to start it until we had gotten settled. They say that kids regress when a new baby arrives or live through a major change. Um, yeah...done and done. As much as I don't want to do this, I sure as heck don't want to have to do it twice.
But we're here now and, well, it's just gotta start. To date, we've had a potty in the bathroom and every once in awhile I would get a wild hair and encourage her to sit on it. However, until recently, Anna hasn't shown any true intention or understanding when it comes to the potty. It would just randomly happen every once in awhile. Turns out if you make a small child sit on a potty for long enough, something will eventually fall out of her body. But... that doesn't really help me in the long run.
The last two weeks though, despite my lack of consistency and lack of desire to do this, Anna has started asking to go to the potty without any prodding from me. And then actually peeing... sometimes.
So we're going cold turkey. I've got a pack of colorful big girl underpants just begging to be worn and urinated on. I've got a little girl who is DYING to wear them. We'll see how it goes.

Good luck!!!
best of luck to you! it won't be painful...just a little wet. : )
I think the best advice that I got (at least for my particular kid) was to not make too big a deal of it. i.e., treat learning to use the potty much the way you treated the child learning to use a spoon or any other developmental skill. so a "good job" but no major fuss, no major rewards. this may help you avoid having anna turn potty-training into a "battle" of sorts - you don't want her to think that it's some kind of big deal to you, so just be a little nonchalant, even walk away from her on the potty and say, "just let me know when you're finished."
okay, end of unsolicited advice.
GOOD LUCK! : )
