The Very Long Week (by Mike)
Sunday - Anna gets sick, 103 high for a fever.
Monday - Anna still sick, fever above 100 all day. Maggie discovers carpet in basement office is soaked. Several hours and a nice hole in the wall later, Mike figures out that previous owners did not install vapor barrier behind wall, leading to so much condensation on concrete walls that it pooled up and ran into the carpet. Spend several hundred dollars on new dehumidifier to arrive Wednesday.
Tuesday - Anna still sick, Maggie comes down with same illness.
Wednesday - Mike falls down flight of stairs before leaving for work, Maggie and Anna even sicker. Mike comes home at lunch due to neck pain and headache. While on way home, Maggie notices brown liquid coming from Anna's ear. Quick visit to doctor results in diagnosis of earwax goo, and a wicked sore throat. Doctor advises Anna eat popsicles, yogurt and ice cream until swelling goes down. Anna goes to bed at 4:30 pm, sleeps until 7 am Thursday morning.
Thursday - Maggie still sick, Anna awakes with a 103 fever again. Anna almost falls asleep while eating breakfast and nearly falls face first into her yogurt. Anna's fever peaks (on ear thermometer) at 104.6 degrees at around 5 pm. Maggie frantically calls neighbors, who come to watch Abe (thank God we have awesome neighbors), so she can follow doctor's advice and take Anna to the hospital.
As I write this, Anna's fever appears may be breaking (it was 102.6 when they got to the hospital), but I think Maggie is going to wait to have Anna checked out. I think I can safely say this may be one of the worst weeks we've had in a long, long time. The only saving graces have been that neither I nor Abe have gotten sick yet. I shudder to think of what that would have been like on top of the rest of this week.
Maggie Update (9 pm): Got home from ER with Anna. Turns out the ear "gunk" from yesterday was basically the beginning of a raging ear infection. ER doc thinks it may have actually perforated. Excellent. Amoxicillin here we come. Hopefully, the fever was related to that and is going to be coming down quickly. BTW, it was 104.4 - not 104.6 - not that it really matters. And, apparently, an ear infection can erupt in a matter of hours, which is why the doc didn't see it yesterday.
Where is that full time nanny I ordered? Seriously, can we please have one?
okay, thanks!

Oh, no! That is a horrible week! Hope Anna is already turning around to feeling better. Maggie, too! And Mike's neck, too!
I'm so sorry you guys! That sounds horrible. I hope everyone is doing much better and Abe and Mike have managed to still not get sick. Hang in there!
oh no! hope you are all on the mend and perhaps healed up enough to enjoy a little bit of halloween fun.
Someone has cursed your family. Seriously. You should check it out. Are there a lot of gypsies in Downer's Grove?? ;)
