Anna's latest class at the park district is called "creative movement." It's an apt characterization. A room full of two and three-year-olds knows no other way to move. As you can guess, getting to dress up in a pink leotard and ballet shoes was the thrill of Anna's lifetime. Seeing her tiny little body squeezed into the leotard brought an immediate smile to my face. Her little toddler tummy and bum are so wonderfully cute. I came close to eating her up.
I actually found a little used tutu for her outfit, but didn't want to introduce it until I was sure other little girls were wearing them also. If I were to take it and then have the teacher say no, it would be tears and shreiks. Fortunately, lots of the girls had tutus, so I'll bust it out as a surprise next week. She often quotes a line from Cinderella when she receives something special, she says, "oh thank you, stepmother." Believe it or not, I've come to find that a truly awesome compliment.
All the mothers sat along the wall in little toddler chairs and watched the kids. We tried not to let our laughs escape, but it proved impossible at times. Watching toddlers attempt pre-ballet and pre-jazz movement rivals any comedic routine. Our little one's attention span was nearly non-existent. She stayed in the circle formation about half the time. The rest of the time, she sort of danced and twirled about. The teacher just put her back in line and was very sweet about it.
At some point one of the little girls did a tumble and then ran over to tell her mother that SHE DID IT! It was like the fourth wall had been broken. Anna and others started running over to tell us that they ALSO DID IT! I haven't seen a smile as big as that in days.
The class started out great. Let's just hope Anna can improve her focusing a bit. Running around the room is funny, but I'm hoping she can actually learn something, too.

oh, stepmother. anna is a natural.
I'm looking forward to the day when Georgia might be willing to get in any circle without me sitting underneath her!
Love the little girls in pink leotards!!
When my Anna turned 3, she would call me wicked stepmother when she was angry!! She also loved dusting and cleaning like Cinderella, although she's now outgrown both.
Love the "oh thank you, stepmother." Brilliant! Anna is hilarious.
