Prayers for Susan

So this isn't exactly what I created the blog for, but I'm going to pause my typical entries for a minute and ask for some help...

During the last few months I've been following the journey of an old co-worker who is battling cancer. Susan Harris Heisel is a really wonderful person who I worked with in the U.S. Senate many years ago. She lives in St. Louis and has two a-dorable boys. Seriously, photographic evidence has shown they are too cute for words.

Diagnosed with cancer in her sinus area (I'm summarizing, perhaps incorrectly, but I'm sure she'll forgive me the details)... she's been through chemo and all its nasty effects for months now. It appeared that the treatments were working and the cancer was reducing in size. However, after some nagging swollen-ness and soreness, she went in for some additional exams last week.

The tests revealed a pretty radical spreading of the cancer into more lymph nodes, her left hip and her lungs.

Susan has been told the cancer is no longer curable. She is fighting like hell and has already entered another round of intensive chemo to try and attack the cancer again. Susan is absolutely throwing herself into this fight, trying anything and everything she can to find a way out of this so she can spend the rest of her life with her family here.

Now I get to the request part of this...

If you're a person who prays, please pray for Susan and her husband and two boys. Pray, pray, pray. Pray for strong chemo, pray for talented specialists, pray for fortitude for Susan and a strong body to withstand this super intensive chemo she's undergoing now, pray for all of it.

And if you're not a person who prays, then do whatever you do to send positive vibes and thoughts her way. She needs it. Her husband need it. Her kids need it.

Susan's got a great support network in St. Louis, but I think we could expand her village a bit, don't you?

Peace to all of you ...

I will pray too!

I have to admit, when I read your title, but stomach kind of turned...I was thinking "what in the world is Maggie about to write about me." Ha. Guess you can have other friends named Susan.

Susan, you were the first person I thought of until I read down a little further! How weird. Anyway, I'm not sure I call it prayer, but will send vibes her way. There is a neighborhood moms group here in Sunnyside, Queens and one of our kids is sick with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma but after 5 months of aggressive chemo, he has had negative scans and I think is on his way out of the darkness. God is good!
