New Year's Resolutions...

This year I'm actually making resolutions. I really haven't done this in recent history because I feel like they're destined to fail and I'm too freakin' tired to go to the gym, people. I'm declaring to the entire world right now that I will never again resolve to go to the gym. (not that I will never exercise again, I'm just not about to make any huge public commitments to it...)

But this year I'm feeling a bit more circumspect. There are things I'd like to work on and I am actually quite optimistic about the year ahead. I continue to get a slightly better grip on daily life as each week passes and, despite continual sleep deprivation, I feel like I'm learning more about myself each day and am getting slightly more accustomed to this new two-kid life.

Now, to the resolutions:

1) Send birthday cards. I'm horrible about this. I haven't sent birthday cards on a regular basis in YEARS. It's not that I forget the birthday itself (though sometimes I do!) but I just can't seem to get my act together and get the card, get the stamp, get it in a mailbox. I'm always blown away when I receive them from others because I somehow think my disorganization must be universal and then, bam, I realize it's actually just me.

2) Turn off the lights when I'm not in the room. Enough said.

3. Practice gratitude.
The glass in my mind always seems to be half empty. Despite what outward appearances reflect, I can never seem to shake the feeling that I'm one life event away from total disaster. My commitment this year is to spend time each day in a prayer of thanks for what I have been given. I'm so fortunate to have two amazing children, a husband who loves me despite my craziness, a warm house, plenty of food and clothes, friends who mean so much to me. This is a good life.

4. Go gluten-free for two weeks. This is a joint resolution with Mike. We are going to go gluten-free for two weeks (probably in February) and see how it makes us feel. My brother is allergic to gluten and has really opened our eyes to how gluten affects the body and how much anxiety decreases and clarity of mind increases when you get it out of your body. So we're going to give it a go.

Happy New Year everyone! I look forward to spending 2010 with you.

Good list. I won't even remind you that you've already missed my birthday (hee hee). The lights are crucial! I hate wasting energy. And I think I'm with you on the gratitude. Takes so much more time to dwell on the what-ifs and crap in life. But being thankful is so much more fun! Hope you and the fam have a great 2010 and I hope to be part of it!

I LOVE your list. Good ones. (Well, except birthday cards. That's just way outta my league. So don't feel bad if you miss my bday.) But the others? Gold, Jerry, GOLD!
