Lovin'

Much to our delight, Anna has started declaring her love for us on a daily, often hourly basis. She'll run across the room and say, "I looove you, mama.... I love you" and then run across the room to Mike and do the same. She is very into the idea of giving lovin' to people. Anna will call out to me from the other room, "Mama, I want to give you lovin' " and then run to my leg and hug and kiss me.

Comically, this also extends to Abe, who often receives kisses and hugs from his big sister. It's an awkward balance between affection and near catastrophe, but she makes it work. And Abe will raise his hands shakily and try to grab at her hair or her arm, delighted to see her. I do love watching the two of them and wondering what kind of playmates and friends they will be one day.

This weekend, as we were pulling out of Costco, Mike and I started our regular debate about whether the next car we buy should be a car or an SUV. Mike asked Anna what kind of car she thought would be best.

Mike: What kind of car do you think we should get, Anna?
Anna: A black car
Mike: Should it be big or little?
Anna: Little
Mike: What else should the car have?
Anna: A seat for me in the front so you can take care of me... and I can give you lovin'
